Dancing with the Stars, For All Mankind Season 2, Asylum Entertainment

Content in the Wild is a regular series about you – your success, your talent and your hard work. In each instalment, we’ll reveal three high-profile projects that are using Pond5 media.   • Dancing with the Stars

    Dancing with the Stars is an American dance competition and television series that premiered June 1, 2005 on the US television network ABC. It is based on the British TV series Strictly Come Dancing produced by BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the BBC.

    Currently, the format has been licensed to air in 60 territories around the world. The format of the show consists of a celebrity paired with a professional dancer. Each couple performs a number of predetermined dances each week, competing against others for judges’ points and audience votes. The couple receiving the lowest combined total of judges’ points and audience votes is eliminated each week until only one couple remains.

  • P5 Commentary

    “Season twenty-nine of Dancing with the Stars premiered September 14, 2020 on the US television network ABC. In the Fall of 2019, I worked closely with the team at Lime Grove Productions, which is responsible for clearance and post-production of this reality TV series.

    The show normally consists of 10-15 episodes so I was thrilled to see how Pond5 could help in their filling air-time due to the unfortunate travel restrictions that were in place. Based on several conversations regarding content the show would need, including establishing shots from places they could not travel to, plus editorial clearances for commercial use, we determined an upfront credit pack deal would help with both savings and licensing efficiency throughout the production. We also gave them a bonus to work with and the show recently wrapped-up filming.

    The new season is packed with celebrities including animal activist and star of Tiger King, Carole Baskin, rapper and singer Nelly, and female actor Anne Heche.

    For All Mankind is an American sci-fi TV series created and written by Ronald D. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi for Apple TV+.

    The series portrays an alternate history depicting what would have happened if the global space race had never ended, with the Soviet Union succeeding in the first crewed Moon landing, ahead of the United States.

    “The team at Sony Pictures Entertainment has relied on Pond5’s archival library for the last two seasons of the show. In this recent season, they chose to include several historical shots to support the time period of the show around the Moon landing and what would have happened if the Soviets had gotten there first.”

    “Pond5 has been providing assets to Asylum Entertainment for several years. I originally negotiated a Minimum Spend Agreement with them back in 2017. In 2018, when Asylum’s production schedule was lighter for the coming 2019 season, Pond5 worked with them on a pay-as-you-go basis. The following year, Asylum’s production schedule increased for 2020 and their need for stock assets increased, so we agreed on a credit pack to provide creative content for all their projects in 2021.”

First, always keep in mind that naturally-looking content cleared for commercial use is much more attractive for our buyers than overly “stocky” clips, especially for filmmakers who want to mix their own footage with media from our collections. Additionally, any recognizable person in the clip should sign a model release. We highly recommend considering diverse actors or models of all ages, ethnicities, races, religions, genders or sexual orientations. It’s time to open some windows, pull your shorts and t-shirts out of winter storage, and get your home ready with some deep cleaning. After a long and brutal winter magnified by a pandemic, what could be better than showing people brushing, scrubbing, sweeping, and wiping away the previous year’s mess–both figurative, and literal.

 

Creative Brief – Shot List Thought Starters:
