“Stock footage is excellent for bringing documentaries to another level, whether it’s used as an establishing shot or just as filling material to help the narrative along. We’ve noticed an increased demand for localized stock footage, as well as models from unique and diverse backgrounds, so we encourage our artists to take advantage of living in different places to provide media that helps us help our clients! Worn Stories is an excellent example of a production enhanced by this unique, localized footage, and we can‘t wait to support more projects with content from around the world.”

    Buyer Requests

Buyer Requests is a monthly guide to the most requested content from real clients.
Get inspired and increase the sales potential of your portfolio.

Most Wanted in June

Summer is knocking at the door, and so are our buyers! They’re looking for fresh new content that celebrates the freedom and spirit of summer, especially now that restrictions across the globe are lifting. Many are choosing to be vaccinated and are looking forward to embracing ‘normal’ life once again. This month, our buyers are looking for shots of Summertime, Partying, and Summer Food.

Summertime

Summertime

USE THIS SPECIAL KEYWORD IN YOUR METADATA: BRSUMMERSTARTS2021
Whether it‘s a giant pool party or a BBQ evening with close friends, summer is the season to be spent outdoors. This year, we’ll appreciate summer more than ever; with the opening of beaches, pubs, and bars, people are gathering together again. Our buyers are looking for shots that showcase the overall optimism over summer! Does your country celebrate any special occasions during the summer? Seize the opportunity and include the holiday in your metadata along with the name of the location! Hint: Independence Day and Labor Day happen in Summer, so think ahead and consider the customs and traditions associated with these celebrations!

Shot List Thought Starters

  • Families, friends, and individuals spending time on the beach—playing volleyball, sunbathing, reading a book, building sandcastles, and having fun.
  • Establishing shots of re-opened bars, pubs, and restaurants shot both during daytime and nighttime.
  • Shots of typical summer sports—beach and water volleyball, surfing, snorkeling and diving, paddle boarding, water polo, etc.
  • School break is an important part of summer—think shots of happy children enjoying the summer holiday. The more diverse and creative, the better!
  • Family travel—in a car driving to their holiday destination or camping in nature.
  • Friends on a road trip.
  • 4th of July Celebrations—fireworks, backyard BBQ, etc.
  • Labor Day Celebrations – shots of parade preparations, etc.

Pro Tip: Consider shooting the same scene both during daytime and nighttime.

Suggested Keywords

Target Group

All groups, but specifically ad agencies.

Partying

Partying

USE THIS SPECIAL KEYWORD IN YOUR METADATA: BRPARTYING2021
The falling number of Covid19 cases and lifting restrictions mean more fun for everyone! Our buyers are hungry for shots from music festivals, clubs, bars, and pubs. Remember to clear your location-bound clips for commercial use—that means having your property release forms ready (unless you plan to shoot close-ups!)

Shot List Thought Starters

  • People of all races, ages, ethnicities, religions, and sexual orientations partying in a club.
  • Footage of music festivals. For example, shots of people dancing to the music, wearing glowing bracelets, having their face painted, etc.
  • A group of people drinking beer in a pub.
  • People wearing masks while sitting at the table in a bar and chatting with each other.

Target Group

PRO TIPS

  • Always keep in mind that authentic-looking content which has been cleared for commercial use is much more popular than overtly “stocky” clips – especially for filmmakers who want to mix their own footage with our media.
  • Clips that are cleared for commercial use should never show any logos or 3rd party intellectual property, unless the owner signs a property release. Any recognizable person in the clip should sign a model release.
  • We highly recommend considering diverse actors or models of all ages, ethnicities, races, religions, genders, or sexual orientations.
  • Choosing the right metadata is crucial for the search algorithm. Never stuff your metadata with irrelevant keywords.

Creative Brief: Waste

Creative Brief – Special Keyword Code: WASTEP5BRIEF

This month‘s Creative Brief brings you Waste. After a year of the global population sheltering at home, the planet was dramatically altered–both for the good, and the not so good. While 84% of countries around the world reported air quality improvements in 2020, plastic production boomed as oil demand cratered and it became even cheaper to make plastics for single-use Personal Protective Equipment. Partner this PPE with takeout food containers and grocery delivery, and you’ve got an exponential increase of waste around the world. This is a chance to highlight this waste.

Creative Brief – Shot List Thought Starters:

  • Medical waste and other PPE litter on the street, in rivers/lakes/oceans, or in waste bins (all focal lengths)
  • (POV) Shots of someone sorting PPE and/or other plastic waste
  • Takeout containers overflowing in public spaces, or in home garbage cans
  • Aerial/drone shots of waste with empty streets and or natural environments
  • Macro/close up shots of hands cleaning up, discarding, and/or using single-use PPE/plastics
  • Various angles of manufacturing or creation of single-use PPE and/or plastics
  • Biodegradable/non-plastic food packaging and PPE
  • Restaurant workers loading food into plastic containers; patrons picking up to-go orders in containers

Suggested Keywords: waste, plastic, PPE, single use, pollution, environment, petroleum, pandemic (if applicable), covid19 (if applicable)

Typical Users: tech companies, news & media organizations, ad agencies, social media companies, vloggers, non-profits, political organizations

People Throwing Food And Drink Garbage Outside The Trash by worawit_j .

Pro-Tip: The biggest thing here is to stay safe and healthy when making this content, and don’t shoot with more people than what your government or public health agencies recommend. Secondly, do your best to cast real-looking talent with real skills to get authentic content. Also, please be conscious of logos and other intellectual property as well.

Casting Considerations:  Race and gender diversity, authenticity with talent and imagery. Accept the challenge to subtract artificiality from your setups. In other words, keep it REAL. These things will play an important role in the success of your shoot.

Location Diversity: homes, apartments, condos, garages, home studios/offices, restaurants, hiking trails, beaches, rivers, lakes, public parks

  • Also, think about a visual approach that will result in new and fresh footage
  • Lastly, remember that each shot must communicate a clear message

Submission Checklist:

Content in the Wild: March 2021

Dancing with the Stars, For All Mankind Season 2, Asylum Entertainment

Content in the Wild is a regular series about you – your success, your talent and your hard work. In each instalment, we’ll reveal three high-profile projects that are using Pond5 media. All deals were facilitated through the work of the Pond5 Creative Partner Team. Prepare to be inspired because this is where all your hard work is showcased!

  • Dancing with the Stars

Dancing with the Stars is an American dance competition and television series that premiered June 1, 2005 on the US television network ABC. It is based on the British TV series Strictly Come Dancing produced by BBC Studios, the commercial arm of the BBC.

Currently, the format has been licensed to air in 60 territories around the world. The format of the show consists of a celebrity paired with a professional dancer. The couple receiving the lowest combined total of judges’ points and audience votes is eliminated each week until only one couple remains.

“Season twenty-nine of Dancing with the Stars premiered September 14, 2020 on the US television network ABC. In the Fall of 2019, I worked closely with the team at Lime Grove Productions, which is responsible for clearance and post-production of this reality TV series.

The show normally consists of 10-15 episodes so I was thrilled to see how Pond5 could help in their filling air-time due to the unfortunate travel restrictions that were in place. Based on several conversations regarding content the show would need, including establishing shots from places they could not travel to, plus editorial clearances for commercial use, we determined an upfront credit pack deal would help with both savings and licensing efficiency throughout the production. We also gave them a bonus to work with and the show recently wrapped-up filming.

The new season is packed with celebrities including animal activist and star of Tiger King, Carole Baskin, rapper and singer Nelly, and female actor Anne Heche.

“Pond5 has been providing assets to Asylum Entertainment for several years. I originally negotiated a Minimum Spend Agreement with them back in 2017. In 2018, when Asylum’s production schedule was lighter for the coming 2019 season, Pond5 worked with them on a pay-as-you-go basis.
